How to Chat with AI Companion?

Start a conversation with AI Companion to get support, guidance, and assistance. You can choose from different conversation topics or engage in a naturally flowing dialogue.

Starting a New Chat Session

1. From the home page, tap on the “Chat with Companion” card
2. You’ll see the Companion home screen with:
   • “Explore Topics” section showing conversation options
   • “Recent Sessions” section (if you have previous sessions)
   • “Quick Start” button at the bottom
3. Choose how you want to start:
   • Tap the “Naturally Flowing Session” card (recommended) for a general conversation
   • Tap on a specific topic card:
     • “Know your Personality” - Generate a personality profile based on your conversation
     • “Making Friends” - Get suggestions on socializing and making friends
   • Tap the “Quick Start” button at the bottom to start immediately with the default topic
4. A new chat session opens with an initial message from AI Companion
5. Wait for the AI’s initial response (you’ll see a typing indicator)
6. Once the AI responds, you can start chatting

Sending Messages

1. Type your message in the text field at the bottom of the chat screen
2. Alternatively, tap the microphone icon to use speech-to-text:
   • Tap the microphone icon to start voice input
   • Speak your message - your words will appear in the text field as you speak
   • Tap the microphone icon again to stop listening
   • Review or edit the text before sending
3. Tap the send button (circular icon with arrow) to send your message
4. Wait for AI Companion’s response

Tip

There’s a brief cooldown period (approximately 45 seconds) after sending a message before you can send another one. This allows the AI to process and respond to your message.

During the Chat

• Messages are displayed in chronological order with timestamps
• Date headers appear when conversations span multiple days
• Your messages appear on the right side with your profile picture
• AI Companion’s messages appear on the left side
• The chat automatically scrolls to show the latest messages

Context and Memory

AI Companion remembers everything discussed in your current session and uses summaries from your previous closed sessions to provide personalized responses. The AI also uses your profile information (such as grade and age) to tailor conversations to your needs.

Ending a Session

1. Tap the back arrow in the top-left corner
2. If you have sent 3 or fewer messages, you’ll see “Continue for greater insights” with an option to “End without Insight” or continue chatting
3. If you have sent more than 3 messages, you’ll see “End and analyze session?” with an option to “End and View Insights” or continue chatting
4. Tap “End and View Insights” to close the session and generate a summary

Caution

Sessions automatically close after 6 hours of inactivity. Once a session is closed, you can view it in your session history but cannot send new messages in that session. You can manually end a session at any time to generate insights.
