How to Mute Group Notifications

You can mute notifications for a chat group to temporarily stop receiving push notifications and alerts for new messages. You can choose to mute for 8 hours, 1 week, or always.

1. Open the Student App and log in
2. Navigate to the Groups section
3. Tap on the group you want to mute
4. Tap the info icon in the top right corner to open group details
5. Tap the three dots menu icon in the top right corner
6. Tap “Mute Notifications” from the menu
7. A dialog will appear with mute duration options:
   • 8 Hours - Mute notifications for 8 hours
   • 1 Week - Mute notifications for 1 week
   • Always - Mute notifications permanently
8. Select your preferred mute duration
9. Tap “Confirm” to apply the mute setting
10. Notifications for this group will be muted for the selected duration
11. A notification banner will appear in the group showing when notifications will be unmuted

Note

Muting notifications doesn’t remove you from the group. You’re still a member and can still access the group and read messages. You just won’t receive push notifications for new messages during the mute period.

Tip

You can unmute notifications at any time by going to the group settings and selecting the option to allow notifications again.

Tip

If you mute a group for “Always”, you can still manually check the group for new messages. The mute only affects automatic notifications.
